Barclays has opened a new branch in Woking town centre in what has been described as a “vote of confidence” for the town’s high street.
The bank closed it’s previous branch in the town on Wolsey Walk at the beginning of the month and opened a new location on Commercial Way less than two weeks later on October 13.
Bosses at the Victoria Place shopping centre have called the opening a “vote of confidence” for Woking’s High Street, celebrating the return of a trusted name to the area and the support that it will provide for the community.
The shopping centre also commended Barclays decision to invest in a new branch in the town, suggesting that it highlights the enduring value of face-to- face service and the importance of community-based banking.
The opening of the new location comes at a time where a number of banks have begun closing dozens of branches across the UK, including in Surrey.
Lloyds, Halifax and Santander have all closed banks in Farnham, Epsom, Walton-on-Thames, Godalming and Camberley in just this year alone.
Barclays closed branches in Cobham and Farnham in 2024. The bank currently has locations in Guildford, Woking, Walton-on-Thames, Staines and Camberley.
Woking’s new Barclays location will offer a full range of services for personal and business customers, as well as digital banking support and financial guidance.
The Commercial Way branch will be open from 9.30am until 3pm from Monday to Saturday, and will be closed on Sundays.
John Paul Jackson, Centre Manager at Victoria Place said: “This is a major vote of confidence in Woking and in the high street. We’re thrilled to welcome Barclays to Commercial Way.
“Their arrival strengthens our mix of retail and services, supports the evolving needs of our community, and brings a trusted name back into the heart of the town.”
