A man and woman from Bedford have been charged with murder following a stabbing in Lewisham. Ben Wazabanga and Ronique Belfon, both 23, are accused of killing 26-year-old Ayowale Aledejana on Monson Road, in New Cross, on Saturday, August 2.
Police, paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance were called to a two-storey terraced property just before 7.30pm following reports a man had been attacked. Mr Aledejana, of South Norwood, was later pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy revealed he succumbed to a knife wound to the chest. Wazabanga and Belfon, of Fairfax Road and Morinsbury Road, respectively, have been charged in connection to Mr Aledejana’s death this morning (August 4).
The pair are remanded in custody and will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court and Westminster Magistrates’ Court, accordingly, later today. Photographs taken on Monson Road over the weekend show a forensics tent set up on the pavement and flowers left on the home’s garden wall.
In an earlier statement, Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the Metropolitan Police investigation said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this difficult time. I understand this incident will be concerning and we are carrying out a fast-paced and thorough investigation to establish the circumstances.
“I would encourage anyone who has not yet spoken to us.”
The fatal stabbing happened across the road from what was the Duke of Albany pub, which featured in the 2004 film Shaun Of The Dead.
