Londoners can expect a few days of sunshine before the downpour
London is set to endure almost a week of constant rainfall, following a mild patch of sunny weather. Today (Sunday, September 7) will be a mild and pleasant day of sunshine in the capital, according to BBC weather, with light breezes and a maximum temperature of 25C in mid to late afternoon.
Tomorrow (Monday) is also set to be mild, a mostly cloudy day with temperatures peaking at around 21C in the afternoon. This cloudy weather, with sunny spells and slight breezes, with linger through Tuesday, with peak climes of 20C and the chance of some light rainfall, BBC Weather reports.
The first day of significant rain is expected on Wednesday, September 10, with drops of rainfall landing at around 11am and hitting harder as the day goes on. Patches of rain will continue throughout Thursday and Friday, although some of these will be light, drizzly spells.
But the downpour will gain gusto next weekend, with precipitation of over 70 per cent on Saturday, September 13, and it will carry on into Sunday. Light rains will hit London the following Monday but are expected to finally fizzle out on Tuesday, September 16 – marking almost a week of consistent rainfall.
Meteorologist Ellie Glaisyer said: “It’s a very windy start for many of us out there this morning particularly across the west where we’ve seen some coastal gales and we’ll continue to see some very strong winds as we go throughout much of Sunday.
“A bit of a brighter start across eastern areas this morning, plenty of hazy sunshine on offer through the afternoon but further west a bit of a wetter picture. Some outbreaks of heavy, showery rain push their way northwards as we go through this afternoon.”
Elsewhere, a total lunar eclipse “blood moon”, is expected to be visible in parts of England and Wales on Sunday night. The moon is to turn a deep, dark red – sometimes called a “blood moon” – as the Earth passes directly between the sun and the moon, casting its shadow across the lunar surface, for the first time since 2022. Where skies are clear, the eclipse will be visible at around 7.30pm.
