A slew of rainy days is on the way as a memorably hot summer with no fewer than four heatwaves in London draws to a close. BBC Weather predicts nine days of rain to begin on Tuesday, August 26, lasting continuously right up to Wednesday, September 3.
Londoners can enjoy a few days of sunshine and mild weather until the wet spell begins. Today (Saturday, August 23) will see “sunny intervals and light winds” according to the forecaster, reaching a peak temperature of 22C in mid to late afternoon, although much of the day will be cloudy with only gentle sunshine coming through.
Things will get slightly warmer tomorrow (Sunday, August 24) with mercury rising to a peak of 24C and a far brighter, clearer day. Luckily, Bank Holiday Monday (August 25) is set to be a fine day, with temperatures inching upwards to 26C and sunshine predicted throughout the afternoon, with no cloud or rain to dampen the day.
But a downpour will arrive on Tuesday, August 26, and shows no sign of abating over the ensuing nine days. The first drops of rainfall are expected to lash down on London at 8am – making a miserable morning journey for commuters. The rain will be relatively light, with a top precipitation of 34 per cent at 11am, and will gradually lessen until dropping off at 4pm.
But the showers will return on Wednesday, Striking at late morning and lasting throughout the day – with the heaviest precipitation of 46 per cent at 3pm.
The rainfall will last throughout Thursday and Friday, as temperature lower to peaks of around 19C, with the heaviest rains of 69 and 79 per cent precipitation hitting for several hours on Friday afternoon.
From then, the rain will linger continuously for several more days, although it will remain relatively light, with heavier showers of 69 per cent precipitation expected on the penultimate day of Tuesday, September 2. Rainfall will be mild on Wednesday, September 3, dropping off finally at around 7pm.

Thursday, August 28: More rain and windy weather with a peak temperature of 20C.
Friday, August 29: Rain showers throughout the day with a peak temperature of 19C.
