London is expected to reach a high of 28C during 10 consecutive days of sunshine as a fresh heatwave hits the capital, according to BBC Weather and experts at Netweather. After a rainy last few days, a heatwave is set in from Friday, May 30 and run until at least Sunday, June 8 according to the latest forecasts.

Although Friday (May 30) will be windy, it will warm up in the afternoon, hitting 23C by 4pm. On Saturday (May 31), the sky will be cloudy in the morning, but temperatures will be hovering around 25C.

Sunday (June 1), Monday (June 2), Tuesday (June 3), Wednesday (June 4) and Thursday (June 5) look set to be fairly similar, with sunny intervals and a light breeze. There will probably be a few hours of rain on Friday (June 6), but temperatures will be above 20C.

As for Saturday (June 7) and Sunday (June 8), Netweather is forecasting dry, sunny weather, with temperatures climbing to 26C and 28C respectively. Looking towards this longer term forecast, a spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Changeable weather across the UK with a mixture of Atlantic weather systems moving in from the west interspersed with dry and sunny periods.

“Wetter conditions tending to be across the northwest of the UK, with the south and southeast likely to see more in the way of dry weather. Temperatures are most likely to be near normal or slightly above in the north and west, perhaps with some hot spells at times, especially across the south.”

Met Office bank holiday warning before heatwave

However, Londoners will have to endure some wet weather before basking in the sun. Over the bank holiday weekend, temperatures will be fairly average, but rain is expected throughout the weekend.

Deputy Chief meteorologist David Oliver added: “We’ll see a change in conditions this weekend as weather systems move in from the Atlantic. These will bring rain and windier conditions from the west later Friday, which will spread across the whole of the UK on Saturday.”

The unstable conditions are set to continue on Monday (May 26), with a mixture of sunny spells and showers. The latter could even be heavy and thundery in places, predicts the UK’s national forecaster.
