A new map from Netweather shows temperatures will soar in London towards the end of May, reaching a scorching 28C between 3pm and 6pm on Friday, May 30, while the preceding day on Thursday, May 29, will see similarly balmy climes of 25C.
Temperatures will be steady throughout next week, according to the Met Office, with a peak of 23C on Saturday and Sunday, dipping to a low of 21C on Monday and then remaining in the low 20s throughout the rest of week.
Just outside of London, three flood alerts are in place due to high groundwater levels from heavy rainfall over winter, affecting the River Mimram in Hertfordshire and nearby Kimpton and Lilley Bottom, and the Henley and Assenden area west of London.
Meteorologist Clare Nasir said: “The reason why the weather is so settled and so dry is high pressure, rooted to the north of the UK and it’s blocking any low pressure systems such as rain and cloud moving in from the Atlantic or from continental Europe.
“It’s a rather cloudy start across eastern counties of England… but a fine afternoon with some sunny spells, blue sky and sunshine elsewhere turning very warm indeed.
“As temperatures arrive around 20 to 22 degrees celsius, and where you see that sunshine further east, UV levels will also be high. Through this evening and overnight, there will be late sunshine to end the day – temperatures falling away, it’s going to be a rather cool one again.
“Cloud will return to some parts of eastern England into the early hours of Friday morning but yet again, it will break through the morning, allowing for some sunshine.
“That low cloud could be a bit more extensive on Saturday morning across England and Wales… through the afternoon on Saturday, we’ll see a fine day with some high temperatures feeling very warm.”
