A young man who fled to Albania following the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Finsbury Park has been convicted of manslaughter. Kevin Peraj, 23, was found guilty of killing Ahmed Habib, 19, under joint enterprise following a six-week trial at Isleworth Crown Court.

The teenager was found with multiple knife wounds inside his stationary car on Stroud Green Road in the early hours of July 11, 2024. A second man sitting in the passenger seat was also injured but survived.

Peraj was caught on CCTV approaching Habib’s car on Seven Sisters Road and attacking the passenger. Habib managed to drive off but came to a stop near Tollington Avenue and died just before 3am.

Attempting to evade arrest, Peraj travelled to Heathrow Airport the same day but missed his flight and instead left the country via the Eurotunnel. He contacted police after a warrant was issued at his family home and was taken into custody upon his return to the UK on July 16.

He was charged with murder the following day under joint enterprise before his conviction for manslaughter. The former Kentish Town resident will be sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on August 1.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. The Metropolitan Police believe Peraj acted alongside another man and officers are now appealing for information that can identify him. This should be shared via 101, quoting 873/11July2024. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Detective Inspector Brett Hagen, who led the investigation, said: “I would like to pay my respects to Ahmed’s family, I am, once again, very sorry for your loss. I hope this result, and that Peraj will now face the consequences of his actions, brings some small comfort.

“Our investigation into the events of that day continues as at least one other man was involved in the attack. I am keen to hear from anyone who may have any information, no matter how small.

“Please think back to when this happened and come forward if you have any information that may help our investigation.”
