It’s probably worth checking your coin collection as you could be sitting on a fortune. Now TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard shared the old coins to make you “big money”

Collecting coins can be a great way to make money, especially if you pluck up the courage to sell.

Certain designs could be worth hundreds of pounds, while others might flog for a little more than their face value. Usually pieces with low mintage can be highly desirable among collectors, as well as those coins with minting errors.

Now it looks like coins which are centuries old can still fetch for an eye-watering sum. Over on TikTok, user @CoinCollectingWizard talked through a series of coins you need to look out for. The guru detailed five specific designs, starting with a 3p which has a mintage of 464,000.

Speaking about the gem, he said: “Find these old coins and make big money… First we have the 1949 Brass Three Pence with a mintage of 464,000. It can sell for anything between £9 and £700, depending on the condition. [Next] the 1905 Half Crown is from the UK, with only 166,008 ever made. You can easily grab between £450 and £10,000, depending on the condition.”

Further on in the clip, the TikTok user discussed the 1853 Four Pence Grout which has just 11,880 ever made. He claimed the poorest condition can fetch £230 but this can go up to £2,000. He continued: “Next we have the 1851 One Shilling with only 470,071 made, this can sell anywhere between £100 and £2,000.

“And last but not least, the 1869 One Penny but we are not sure how many were made. Imagine finding this in great condition and bagging yourself £5,000, unbelievable.” Since he shared the clip, it racked up nearly 600 likes and dozens of comments.

One said: “Wow,” while a second viewer admitted: “Gave mine to charity I bet they never gave the money.” And a third added: “I’ve got one.” It’s not always easy finding these coins, but it’s worth checking your collection now if you want the big bucks…
