Olly Murs left his fans gobsmacked when he abruptly ended his concert in Glasgow after performing just six songs. The celebrated pop artist, who turned 40 this year, was amid enthralling a packed audience on his second consecutive sold-out night in the city when he suddenly stopped the show.
Eager to thrill attendees with his smash hits, Olly’s plans took an unexpected turn after delivering just five performances. Addressing his audience, Olly made the startling revelation: “My voice has gone.” Following his rendition of ‘Kiss Me Like You Mean It’, he made the candid admission.
Explaining the reason for his decision, he stated: “This has never happened to me before but you can hear my voice is going. I want to give you the concert you deserve so I can’t go on.” He promised: “I’m going to come back, but I need to go now.”, reports the Mirror.
His departure cast a hush over the venue as the lights were raised and confusion swept through the crowd. Discontent soon spread among his supporters once it dawned on them that Murs wasn’t playing a prank; he had truly exited the stage.
Concert-goers, some of whom splashed out upwards of £57.55 for their tickets, were left flummoxed while being ushered out by security personnel. Later, Olly issued a heartfelt apology on his Instagram, filming himself saying: “Glasgow, I am so sorry tonight. So sorry that I had to walk off after six songs and cancel the show.”
Conveying regret, he added: “I have never done this in 15 years. Most of the time, as singers, you can kind of get through it if your voice isn’t 100 percent but I walked out tonight thinking my voice was great.”
Olly Murs apologised to his fans after cutting a concert short, admitting he was feeling below par but did not believe it hampered him enough to cancel. “I maybe felt a little bit rundown but I didn’t think I couldn’t do the show because I wouldn’t have come out there otherwise. So, to walk off after six songs, I am so sorry. 15 years I have never done this.”
He mournfully continued in regard to the unforeseen early conclusion of his set: “As you can hear from my voice, I was sounding rubbish and it is unfair for you guys to spent all that money to come and see me. You deserve the best show and me being at my best. I am so sorry from the bottom of my heart.”
The singer also stated his intentions to consult a medical professional, saying he was going to see a doctor tonight for advice. Fans are eager to see Olly in upcoming performances, with gigs scheduled in Manchester on Friday, Birmingham on Saturday, and a fully booked event at London’s O2 arena on Sunday.
It’s not the first time Murs had to disappoint his Glasgow audience; he previously withdrew from supporting Take That at Glasgow’s Hydro arena just before the doors opened. In recent developments, Olly reported having to nix two UK concerts last month due to illness. Using social media, he relayed to his supporters that both Hull’s and Brighton’s appearances were called off.
The 40 year old explained via Instagram stories about the cancellation, citing a severe stomach bug afflicting himself and spreading amongst his band crew. The artist expressed his regret for disappointing his supporters and assured them that the cancelled performances would be rearranged.
He shared on social media: “I hate that I have to write this and really so sorry to let you guys down, but unfortunately, we are having to reschedule our next two shows in Brighton and Hull.” He explained the reason behind the postponement: “The gastroenteritis bug I had last night is currently ripping through our band and crew, which makes it impossible to put on a show for you.”
He added that they would be pausing the tour briefly: “We’ll be taking a break for 48 hours to ensure everyone can be fit and healthy for the remainder of the tour. Thank you for understanding and we’re working hard to bring you news of our rescheduled dates as soon as we can. Love Olly x.”
