Aldi took the opportunity to swipe at its budget supermarket rival Lidl after spotting an amusing detail about an Olympian’s attire – and people can’t unsee it!
The Olympic Games are well underway.
We’ve seen some brilliant sport over the last few days – whether it’s the inspiring comeback of Simone Biles, record-breaking swimming of Leon Marchant or Alex Yee’s remarkable victory in the triathlon for Team GB.
But perhaps surprisingly for some, it’s actually the Romanian athletes that have been causing a stir on social media. Brits have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to share a rather amusing observation about the nation’s choice of attire.
On Tuesday, Aldi went ahead and likened the Romanian gymnast’s Olympics costume to the red, yellow and blue store colours of Lidl. The German store shared and commented on X post, which said: “You look great tonight babe –@ LidlGB.”
People found the post equally as amusing too. One laughed: “Is it currently available in the middle aisle?” Another amused shopper joked: “Strong Lidl vibes.” And a third added: “With the Euros over they clearly needed another sport to sponsor.”
Lidl didn’t shy away from the jibe – and responded in equally funny fashion. A couple of hours later, they replied to the viral post: “When your ex is in your DMs replying to your Stories at 2am.”
Shoppers enjoyed the comeback, which seemed to suggest Aldi is obsessed with its rival! One user replied: “Aldi accidentally double-tapped man.” And another added: “Mine looks through my posts. If I’ve shared some media, he goes to the original source and shares it with the occasional comment. All within 24 hours of me sharing. Bless. A mate of mine watches it unfold and tells me.”
