Only the smartest readers will be able to pick out every mistake in this tricky brain teaser as the clock counts down from 17 seconds.

Optical illusions and brain teasers not only give you bragging rights by proving your brain power, they’re also established as an effective means of training your grey matter, and can even have a positive effect on your mental health. Today’s task shows a picture of an antique shop, but not all is right in the vintage store. Only people with a high Intelligence Quotient (IQ) will be able to spot the eight hidden mistakes in less than 20 seconds. A person’s IQ is a measure of their capacity for reasoning, and is deigned to gauge how well they can use information and logic to answer questions.

Looking at the image, you can see three people inside the antique shop browsing its wares. The shoppers, like many viewers, can’t see the odd elements that don’t belong there. Spoilers now follow as we point out the mistakes in this difficult teaser.

If you cast your eyes to the top left of the image, you’ll see a tiger’s head mounted on the wall – a hunter’s catch. But this tiger has a pair of horns on its head. Tigers don’t have horns. Staying on the left, but coming to the front of the picture, a chess board sits on the table as one of the men checks out who’s been making the best moves. There’s a mistake here too. The number of squares on the chess board total 49 (7×7) instead of the standard 64 (8×8).

Next are a couple of animal-related mistakes. Among the items is a dog sprawled out on the sofa, but his tail resembles that of a cat rather than a pooch. And the fish tank is swarming with butterflies. The youngest person in the image is a lad on the right who appears to be perusing the books on offer. But if you look at his shirt, one arm has a full sleeve while the other is a three-quarter length sleeve. Across the room a guitar sits atop a table, but its head is more like one found on a Sitar. The windows that open on to a city scene outside are also odd, with one opening inwards and the other outwards. Then the man in the painting in the centre of the image appears to be wearing a single shoe.
