Pensioner East London motorcyclist suffers ‘life-changing’ injuries in horror crash

A 68-year-old motorcyclist is facing life-changing injuries following a crash in Hornchurch this morning (Saturday, September 20). The pensioner collided with a car on Upminster Road just after 9.20am, prompting a large emergency response.

He was taken to hospital by paramedics, where his condition was deemed severe but not life-threatening. The driver of the car stopped at the scene and has not been arrested in connection, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.

The force cordoned off the busy stretch near Upminster Bridge station into the afternoon, though traffic is now flowing as usual. Transport for London (TfL) also put bus routes 248 and 370 on diversion.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service, who treated a 68-year old man at the scene before transporting him to hospital. His injuries are believed to be life-changing, but not life-threatening.

“The driver of the car involved stopped at the scene. A scene remains in place on Upminster Road, and buses have been diverted.”

The London Ambulance Service has been contacted for more information.
