You’ll be surprised to hear what the little novelty hat on the Sierra Tequila actually does and people on X, formerly Twitter, are quite mind-blown by the revelation
You know the saying… every day is a school day.
Well in recent months, we’ve learnt a lot of things thanks to the internet. Previously, people learned the truth about bringing food and drink into the cinema. It turns out many are only just realising they’ve been doing it all for nothing.
Now to mark National Tequila Day on July 24, Brits are discovering something pretty handy about the tipple. Tequila is often consumed as a shot or as part of a cocktail like the humble margarita or refreshing mojito.
No matter what way you like your poison, you will have definitely heard of the brand Sierra Tequila in the UK. The tipple is a well-loved brand and it’s a ticket for delicious cocktails (or shots). And the bottle is known for its iconic look.
On the top, the bottle features a sombrero hat to mark its Mexican origin and it turns out there’s a good reason for it. Over on X, formerly Twitter, user @J4ckmull revealed: “I was today years old when I realised the sombrero on top of the bottle of tequila was so you could salt your glass.”
It is believed the design of the miniature sombrero is ideal for filling with salt, allowing you to then pour your shot glass into the groove. The trick leaves the rim of your glass lightly dusted with salt, perfectly prepping it for a dreaded shot.
In a follow-up comment, the user quipped: “Don’t even lie, you know you all thought it was just a cute little sombrero for your bottle.” The life hack caused quite a meltdown at the time with it racking up hundreds of retweets.
One said: “Shut the front door! I didn’t know that. I thought it was just a little sombrero.” Another added: “What no this changes the entire game.” While a third admitted: “Blew my mind.”
Someone else posted: “Just found out the little sombrero on the tequila bottle is for juicing your lime and coating your shot glass with salt. Shook.”
For those concerned about their alcohol consumption, it’s advised to seek guidance from a GP or explore drinkaware.co.uk for additional support. The NHS suggests keeping alcohol intake within 14 units per week to stay on the safe side. Remember to drink responsibly.
