People have been left in stitches after seeing a birth announcement sign in a town in the US – and realised the baby’s name sounded like something quite rude. While some thought it was funny, others were worried the tot would be bullied
Picking a name for your name for your newborn takes a lot of time and consideration – some want the word to have meaning, others want it to sound nice, but most importantly of all it should be something they would be teased for when they grow up.
However, this clearly isn’t something one set of parents in the US thought of when they named their baby. To make matters worse, they shared the name on a huge birth announcement sign – and people have been left in stitches.
The sign read: “Welcome to the world Annaly, 7lbs 10oz.” Annaly is an Irish name coming from the name female name Anna, according to nicebabyname.com. It’s a variation of the name Annaleigh, which means ‘grace’ or ‘light’.
However, people have realised that when the name is written down – it looks like something quite rude. One person joked: “Not the traditional way to give birth, but I guess to each their own!” Along similar lines, someone else said: “I’ve never heard of a baby being born that way before…”
Another quipped: “This is my other daughter, Orally,” while another responded: “You joke, but I’ve 100% seen the name ‘Oralee’ before. I think people were trying to go for ‘Aurelie.'”
Someone else wrote: “That poor kid’s gonna get so mercilessly bullied…” Another said the baby was “doomed” while someone else said: “That name is a hate crime.”
However, another couldn’t see the problem with the name, which would be pronounced like ‘Anna Lee’. They asked: “What’s wrong with Anna Lee?” And someone responded: “Anna Lee has the same problem. Anna Lee. Annalee. Anally.”
Variations of the same name aren’t uncommon, with another Reddit user sharing the ‘worst baby name ‘ they’d ‘personally ever seen’ – AnaLee. A Redditor responded: “I’m sure that’s what the parents were going for, Anna Lee. But say it fast and you’re going to definitely have some kid pick up on the similarity.”
And someone else took the name even further. Sharing on Reddit, one flummoxed woman shared that her friend had called her daughter Annally. She wrote: “I’m so sorry but my friend really named her baby Annally. WHO IS GOING TO TELL HER — SHE ALREADY WENT THROUGH WITH IT. It’s been months and everyone in her life thought it was pretty. It’s a combination of mother’s names… I didn’t want to be a jerk and over the phone, it sounded like Anna Lee.”
