Woman hits back at people who hate moissanite rings
A woman hit back at a judgemental stranger who made a remark about her engagement ring.
Kelsey Kotzur, a fashion influencer from New York, US, was teeming with newly engaged glee after getting her dream ring custom-made with a moissanite gemstone. The naturally occurring mineral has a similar appearance to a diamond which was once referred to as the “gemstone from the stars”.
Today, it is predominantly made in a laboratory – which is more ethically and eco-friendly than diamond mining. It is also a quarter of the price on average. But the lower the price of your engagement ring, the more judgement you can expect from others, which is what happened to Kelsey when she was approached by a stranger about her bling.
In a video, which gained more than 127,000 likes, she slammed the woman for only disliking the ring when she found out it wasn’t a diamond. She said: “I was at an event and this woman came up to me and she said, ‘Oh my God, your ring is so beautiful. I’ve just been staring at it.'”
And being proud of her custom-made engagement ring, she showed it off “shamelessly.” The woman said: “Oh my God, that must have cost a fortune!”
Kelsey replied: “No, it’s a moissanite. It’s pretty affordable. It wasn’t too bad and the company we worked with are amazing.”
But as soon as she mentioned that her ring was moissanite, the woman seemed disinterested, claiming it was a “fake diamond.” To which, Kelsey snapped: “It’s a different stone. It looks like a diamond, I suppose, but like, could you you couldn’t tell the difference, could you?”
The lass went on to say it was “icky behaviour” to judge people based on whatever ring they choose to get engaged. She mocked: “‘Oh, is that a real ring?’ Like, what the f**k does it look like? A watch?”
In the caption, she added: “If moissanite has one fan, it’s me.” But not everyone feels the same way.
TikTok users were left divided over moissanite rings in the comments, as some say they would only accept diamonds. One user said: “As a personal preference, I will never wear anything but a diamond.”
However, many users defended Kelsey as they said she should be able to have whatever she wants for her ring. A viewer argued: “LOVE my moissanite ring idk [I don’t know] why people are so pressed about diamonds,” while someone else penned: “I love that she literally couldn’t tell the difference and was still judgey lmao.”
A third added: “I literally don’t understand why this is a thing, honestly when someone spends 20k+ on a ring I’m like wow that seems like a bad financial decision.” A fourth quipped: “We’re all just penguins giving our partners pretty rocks.”
