They’ve been on supermarket shelves but decades, but some Brits are only just learning that all varieties of Pot Noodle – despite their flavour names – are suitable for almost everyone
If you’re a vegetarian who has turned down the age-old instant snack Pot Noodle owing to its meaty flavours – you’ve unknowingly missed a trick.
For some Brits are only just realising that, despite numerous famous flavours including Chicken and Mushroom and Beef and Tomato, Pot Noodles are suitable for those who don’t eat meat. Even the latest offerings, such as Sticky Rib and Donner Kebab, are meat-free.
You may be even more surprised to learn that some Pot Noodles are vegan too – but be sure to check the packaging before you try. Proudly holding their lunch aloft, one Reddit user expressed their surprise this week: “I was today years old when I found out Chicken and Mushroom Pot Noodle is vegetarian.”
They continued in the r/CasualUK subreddit: “My vegetarian sister was sat eating it and when I quizzed her she showed me the vegetarian stamp on the side. I feel like I’ve been cheated every time I ate it in the past. Anyone know of any other products you’d be shocked to find they’re vegetarian?”
One person added that his work colleagues had also been shocked to learn Pot Noodles were suitable for veggies. “As a vegetarian if I had one for lunch at work, co-workers would tell me I shouldn’t be eating it as it’s chicken,” he said. “They were surprised to learn that it was suitable for vegetarians.”
Others gave examples of alternative vegetarian and vegan surprises to tickle the taste buds. “Most beef gravy granules are veggie, chicken is a bit hit or miss, which is strange because chicken instant noodles or anything like that usually is veggie,” one Redditor penned.
A second added: “Chicken Super Noodles are accidentally vegan. Other flavours are too but I only like chicken.” A third revealed: “Maple bacon pretzels in Sainsbury’s are vegan as well. Enjoy your new discovery.”
A fourth said: “Bacon rasher crisps are vegan. Salt and vinegar usually isn’t though as it contains milk powder.”
