Police are investigating whether a man stabbed to death in Knightsbridge last night was the victim of a robbery. The 24-year-old was knifed outside The Park Tower just before 9.30pm in front of several horrified witnesses.
He was found on Seville Street, opposite department store Harvey Nichols, and treated by paramedics, but was pronounced dead shortly after. Distressing footage claiming to show the aftermath of the stabbing shows a woman attempting to stem the blood flow from the victim’s chest wound.
Photos taken at the scene this morning show a forensics tent inches from the 5-star hotel’s door, with pools of blood covering the pavement. People have now begun leaving floral tributes in memory of the young man outside the cordon.
No arrests have been made yet but the Metropolitan Police says it is pursuing several lines of enquiry.
Superintendent Owen Renowden, who leads policing in Kensington and Chelsea, said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones following the shocking events that took place last night. Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command, supported by local officers, are working at pace to establish the circumstances of what happened.
“We are aware of reports that this incident was a robbery. Although this is an active line of enquiry, we are keeping an open mind about all possible motives and the exact circumstances are still to be determined.”
Additional officers have been put on patrol in the area to answer any ‘questions or concerns’.
