A pilot’s wife has shared the number one travel “rule” she swears by when it comes to flying due to how much “easier” it makes travelling. Packing is a laborious task, even when it’s for something as exciting as a holiday or mini getaway.

Different airlines have different protocols to abide by but, typically, there are strict rules when it comes to liquids. The UK government website warns: “Airport security staff will not let anything through that they consider dangerous – even if it’s normally allowed in hand luggage.”

Usually, passengers are only allowed to carry travel-sized bottles and containers of liquids, creams, gels, aerosols and more, provided they’re limited to 100ml or less. This rule applies to carry-on luggage while any larger liquids must be packed in checked bags.

Greta, who is married to a pilot, regularly shares insight into her life on the hit social media platform TikTok, as well as the occasional travel tip learned through her experiences of being married to a pilot and spending lots of time in airports.

One thing she always does – and recommends – is only ever packing carry-on luggage instead of checking her bags in.

In a recent clip, Greta can be seen standing in an airport with a small suitcase, suitable to take on board a plane.

Over the top of the 20 second clip, she wrote her instructions.

Greta penned: “Why I pack in only carry ons:

  1. Forces you to be organized
  2. No waiting on bags
  3. No lost bags
  4. Easier for trips where you are bouncing around”.

The pilot’s wife then shared a series of tips for making packing belongings in a carry-on bag much simpler.

She recommended planning outfits in advance, bringing shoes and bags that “coordinate with multiple looks” and wearing your “chunkiest shoes on the plane” to save room.

Greta also advises bringing a “big duffle” bag as your second carry-on option, as well as using packing cubes, and buying travel-sized items in 100ml bottles as they’re “still really big”.

In the caption alongside the video, she simply wrote: “I’ve never been made to check either of these [because] of size”.

In the comments section, fellow TikTok users were eager to share their thoughts.

One person agreed and said: “Same I love traveling [with] just my carry ons! My husband is even better at packing and can take just a backpack on a 2 week trip lol”.

Another said: “I also only do carry-ons. Going on 6 years of only ever packing carry-ons”.

A third commented: “I do the same!!! works every time”, while another echoed this sentiment: “Yes!!! Carry on girl always”.

One person shared their concern though: “I can never fit all my liquids into one ziplock bag… every airport is different but technically only allowed 1 quart ziplock bag”.

Someone else said: “Yea but as a curly hair girl I have too many liquids even if I get the travel size”.

One person said: “agreed but when the carry on limit is 8kg it’s impossible” and then expanded: “It’s dependent on the airline and the route! For example, Swiss air has an 8kg limit for carry [on] for transatlantic flights.”

Another person commented: “Your personal bag being as big as your carry on is killing me”, to which, Greta responded: “And it works every time”.

Always verify your airline’s carry-on guidance and rules prior to travelling.
