Members of the public and station staff reportedly tried to intervene before the group fled on a train towards High Barnet
Police are trying to identify five young people after a man was racially abused and attacked on the London Underground. Officers say at 1.50am on Saturday, June 28 a 32-year-old man suffered abuse between Leicester Square and Camden Town on a Northern line train.
They all reportedly left the train in Camden Town before the group kicked and punched the man to the ground. British Transport Police said members of the public and station staff tried to intervene but the attacks continued until the group fled and got on a train to High Barnet.
The force has released CCTV photos of five people officers want to speak to in connection with the incident Anyone who recognises them is asked to text BTP on 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40 using the reference 64 of 28 June. Information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
A full statement from British Transport Police reads: “Detectives investigating a serious assault at Camden Town Underground station have released images of a group of people they would like to speak to. At around 1.50am on Saturday June 28 a 32-year-old man was on a Northern Line train from Leicester Square when he was racially abused by a group of people.
“They all left the train at Camden Town where the incident escalated into the group kicking and punching the man to the ground. Members of the public and station staff tried to intervene but the assault continued before the group fled and got on a train towards High Barnet.
“Officers have carried out a wide range of enquiries following the incident, and would like to speak to those pictured as they believe they could have information that may assist their enquiries.”
