Police investigating the fatal stabbing of a 22-year-old man in Hounslow have issued a strong statement on the location of the attack. Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the victim was knifed down outside Hounslow Muslim Centre in Hanworth Road on Sunday, June 22.

Officers and ambulance paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 2.20pm to reports of the stabbing. The young man was treated at the scene and taken to hospital where he later died.

Both murder suspects, aged 27 and 37, were arrested a day later on Monday, June 23. They remain in police custody. Following the attack, police have issued a statement to confirm there is nothing to suggest any link between the stabbing and nearby Hounslow Muslim Centre.

‘Horrendous incident’

Superintendent James Rawlinson from the local neighbourhood policing team, said: “We are aware of the effect this horrendous incident has had on the local community, and have designated officers on reassurance patrols, to answer questions that you may have.

“Residents will continue to see increased police presence whilst this investigation remains ongoing. I encourage anyone who has information but may not have contacted police yet to get in touch and assist with this investigation.

“If you think you might have caught any dash cam or mobile phone footage, please upload it here. Please rest assured we are working at pace on this investigation, which is ongoing.

“As is stands, we maintain that though the incident took place outside the Hounslow Muslim Centre, there is nothing to suggest a link to the venue. Our thoughts, as always, remain with the family and friends of the victim at this incredibly difficult time.”

‘Avoid spreading rumours or misinformation’

The management team of Hounslow Muslim Centre released a statement following the stabbing. It reads: “[The stabbing] took place near several local businesses, including Hounslow Muslim Centre. We want to make it clear that this incident is not connected to the Centre in any way. Those involved did not enter our premises.

“We are fully cooperating with the authorities and thank the emergency services for their swift response. In the meantime, we are grateful for your patience and request that you pray for any innocent parties involved.

“Please contact the police if you have any information useful to the investigation. We also urge everyone to avoid spreading rumours or misinformation, especially online, and to report any Islamophobic abuse to the police or relevant organisations. Violence has no place in our community. The Hounslow Muslim Centre remains committed to working with all partners to help build a safer society for everyone.”

Anyone who can assist the investigation team is asked to call 101 quoting 4387/22Jun or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.
