Police spat at as they Taser suspected burglar with knife on London bus

Met Police officers Tasered a man who allegedly fled the scene of a burglary on a London bus. It has been revealed two officers were spat at in the process of the man being detained.

The incident happened yesterday (Monday, November 24) when officers were alerted to an attempted burglary on Hornsey Rise, Crouch Hill. But the man they were searching for had fled it before they arrived.

A 31-year-old suspect was stopped on a nearby bus after a chase. Police claim he had a knife and was Tasered after refusing to put it down. Two cops were spat at and two assaulted as they tried to apprehend their man. They were all taken to hospital where no injuries were life-threatening or life-changing.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, grievous bodily harm, theft and assaulting an emergency worker. He was taken to hospital, where he remains, following welfare concerns.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “On Monday, November 24, at 10.27am police were called to reports of an attempted burglary on Hornsey Rise, Crouch Hill. The suspect, a 31-year-old man, fled the scene before officers arrived.

“Officers later identified the man and detained him on a nearby bus, following a pursuit. He was seen to be in possession of a knife and Tasers were discharged by police after he refused to surrender the weapon.

“During his arrest, two officers were spat at and two were assaulted. All four were taken to hospital and later discharged. No injuries were life-threatening or life-changing. The knife was recovered at the scene.

“The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, grievous bodily harm, theft and assaulting an emergency worker. He was taken to hospital by officers following welfare concerns.

“He remains in hospital. Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information that may assist police is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 2090/24NOV25.”
