Prince Harry has dropped a major hint about his future in America in a brand new podcast appearance where he is also teased over a quote from his explosive memoir Spare.

The Duke of Sussex has appeared on a brand new episode, which dropped today of the Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know podcast, which is hosted by the American-Indian comedian.

The pair spent much of the time talking about Harry and Meghan Markle ’s work in sounding the alarm on the dangers of AI and social media for children, but towards the end of their conversation, he revealed whether he will be applying for US citizenship.

During a closing segment on the podcast, which Hasan called the Royal Rapid Fire, he asked Harry if he would be pursuing an application for American citizenship, given he and his family have been settled in California for half a decade.

Hasan asked simply: “Are you going to become a US citizen?” to which Harry responded: “There are no plans to be at this point.”

Harry’s plans to become a citizen of America have long been a topic of conversation, as he has previously tossed up the idea of becoming a permanent citizen, even though it would likely mean renouncing his royal title .

US immigration policy states that “any applicant who has any titles of heredity or positions of nobility in any foreign state must renounce the title or the position.” The US Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) also confirms individuals have to “expressly renounce the title in a public ceremony and USCIS must record the renunciation as part of the proceedings.”

While Harry is not a US citizen, his wife Meghan and daughter Princess Lilibet both are, given they were born on American soil. Prince Archie holds dual US and UK citizenship, given he was born in England to an American parent.

Elsewhere in the podcast, Harry was teased by the show’s host over a quote from his explosive autobiography Spare.

Discussing a line in the 2022 memoir where Harry talked about his “official clothing allowance” from his dad, the Duke of Sussex burst out laughing. Minhaj adopted a serious tone and read out a line from the book where Harry said he shops at TK Maxx for his everyday clothes, because his allowance only covered formal wear.

“Bro, I’m sorry you had to go through that,” the comedian said, to which Harry laughed and responded: “You know what, it was hard, it was really hard. TK Maxx is now a special place in my memory.” It is believed the podcast was recorded in New York City earlier this month for the World Mental Health Day Gala, which the Sussexes attended.
