Prince Harry’s former Army mate, Dean Stott, has revealed that the Duke is struggling with being away from home following the news of his father, King Charles’ cancer diagnosis. The pair initially met during their army training when the Duke was aged just 22. Stott shared that Harry, 39, is missing his family dearly.
Upon hearing of King Charles’ health troubles, the Duke didn’t hesitate to fly back to the UK in February to spend a brief 30 minutes with his father before returning to California the next day. He then made the journey to the UK again in May, but did not meet any of his Royal family members during this visit.
Opening up on Australia’s 9News, Stott explained: “So for Harry, it’s got to be difficult living in America, there is that distance so I have no doubt it’s going to be hard on him and that’s why I really do hope there’s some sort of resolution soon before it’s too late.” Harry and Stott have a strong friendship, dating back to their time serving together in Afghanistan and have maintained contact ever since.

Stott further told 9News: “He is doing well. Obviously, he’s always under the spotlight and for me, I always want to see a resolution between him and his family,” reports the Express US. Stott was also asked by the channel whether Harry felt any sibling rivalry upon learning that his brother, Prince William, was named the colonel-in-chief of the Army Air Corps.
Stott commented: “Charles had it for 30-plus years. Obviously, he’s having to pass down some of those responsibilities. It makes sense since William’s the future king and he has flown helicopters before. If William wasn’t flying helicopters then yes, I could probably understand some uproar, but it seems to be the natural fit for his brother.”
In a previous interview, Stott described his relationship with Harry: “I just saw him as a level peer, I didn’t see him as a member of the Royal Family, so we just got on naturally, and ever since, we’ve maintained that friendship.”
