Prince Harry and Prince William have grown up with Hugh Grosvenor, Duke of Westminster, but when he ties the knot with Olivia Henson on June 7, the Duke of Sussex will be absent from the wedding
Prince Harry is off the guest list at the “society event of the year” due to his bitter rift with big brother Prince William.
The estranged siblings were expected to attend the upcoming nuptials of their childhood pal Hugh Grosvenor, Duke of Westminster, when he ties the knot with Olivia Henson on June 7 in Cheshire. However, due to the fallout between Harry and William, the Duke of Sussex has reportedly turned down the invitation to Hugh’s big day over fears that he has been left out of the wedding because he hasn’t been asked to play a role in the ceremony. According to The Times, the Prince of Wales will be serving as usher, while his son Prince George – who counts Hugh as one of his godparents – will also be involved.
It was previously rumoured that Hugh had failed to invite Harry to the wedding due to the fractious relationship between the warring brothers, but sources told the Daily Mail that the 39-year-old simply decided to skip the nuptials as he felt “put out” he hadn’t been asked to be an usher. The insider revealed that Harry believes he has a closer friendship with Hugh than William, and the decision to leave him out “triggered Harry to decline an invitation”. They said the Duke, who chose Hugh to be his son Archie’s godfather, “was put out by the request when he thought that it should have been him.”

Their friendship began as children, as King Charles is Hugh’s godparent and was close friends with his late father Gerald Grosvenor. Charles even asked Gerald Grosvenor to act as a mentor for a young Prince William, and the heartwarming friendship between the three boys has continued into adulthood. Hugh attended William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2012, and Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials in 2018, but sadly, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will miss out on seeing one of the prince’s oldest friends get hitched due to the ongoing feud between the brothers.
However, Harry and Meghan aren’t the only ones who won’t be at the Duke of Westminster’s big day. King Charles and Camilla will also not be attending the ceremony, and it’s unlikely Kate, the Princess of Wales, will be at the nuptials as she’s undergoing cancer treatment.
