Harry and Meghan shared the news of her first pregnancy with his family on the day of Princess Eugenie’s wedding and went on to welcome son Archie on 6th May 2019

Prince William had a four-word response to Meghan’s pregnancy news

Relations between Prince William and his younger brother are at an all-time low, with the future King avoiding meeting Prince Harry during his recent four-day visit to the UK.

But there was a time when the brothers were close, and they were still on good terms when Meghan and Harry found out she was pregnant with their son Archie.

Perhaps surprisingly, the Sussexes decided to tell William their happy news on the same day as their cousin Princess Eugenie’s wedding in October 2018.

Harry opened up about the moment in his memoir Spare, writing: “Euge was getting married to Jack, and we were deliriously happy for her, and for ourselves, selfishly, since Jack was one of our favourite people.

“Meg and I were supposed to head off on our first official foreign tour as a married couple, but we delayed the departure several days, so we could be at the wedding. Also, the various gatherings connected to the wedding would give us a chance to pull aside family members one by one and tell them our good news.”

He continued: “After the drinks reception, in St George’s Hall, Meg and I pulled Willy aside. We were in a big room, suits of armour on the walls. Strange room, strange moment. We whispered the news, and Willy smiled and said ‘we must tell Kate’.

“She was across the room, talking to Pippa. I said we could do it later, but he insisted. So we went and told Kate and she also gave a big smile and hearty congratulations. They both reacted exactly as I’d hoped.”

Harry also opened up about the sweet moment they told his father, King Charles, recalling: “He was delighted to learn that he was going to be a grandfather for a fourth time, his wide smile warmed me.”

Just last week, Harry met with his father King Charles for the first time since February 2024. It was a brief reunion that lasted 55 minutes.

It’s understood that, despite carrying out engagements in close proximity to each other, there was no meeting between Harry and his elder brother William, with the heir said to have no interest in seeing his estranged sibling.

After leaving the UK, Harry travelled to Ukraine – and there he once again made headlines when he did a rare sit-down interview.

In the chat with The Guardian, Harry insisted that his “conscience is clear” after publishing his revealing memoir Spare, asserting that he did not air his “dirty laundry in public”.

He said: “I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public. It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear.

“I know that [speaking out] annoys some people and it goes against the narrative. The book? It was a series of corrections to stories already out there. One point of view had been put out and it needed to be corrected.”

The Duke further shared how his wife, Meghan, always told him that truth ‘is the most efficient way to live’, explaining: “She said, ‘Just stick to the truth’. It is the thing I always fall back on. Always. And if you think like that, who would be stupid enough to lie? It takes up too much time and effort.”
