The gulf between Prince Harry and his family is bigger than ever with no sign of a reconciliation on the cards. As such, he’s likely to miss out on one of his favourite aspects of royal life
Prince Harry has missed out on a number of key family moments following his estrangement from the royals. And he will be keenly aware of that this summer when he is absent from yet another gathering – an event he once treasured.
Harry and Meghan stepped back as working royals in 2020 and since then have repeatedly aired their grievances with the Royal Family through interviews, their Netflix series, and the Duke’s memoir, Spare. As such, they are all but estranged.
With that in mind they are highly unlikely to accept an invite to join the royals at Balmoral this summer. Traditionally, the monarch receives family members at the Scottish estate to enjoy private time together away from royal duties and out of the spotlight.
In the past, Harry has spoken about the special place Balmoral holds in his heart.
He explained in Spare: “To me, Balmoral was always simply Paradise. A cross between Disney World and some sacred Druid grove.
“I was always too busy fishing, shooting, running up and down ‘the hill’ to notice anything off about the Feng Shui of the old castle. What I’m trying to say is, I was happy there.”
According to royal author Tom Quinn, the King could extend an invitation to the Sussexes; he’s reportedly keen to forge a relationship with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet. But the Montecito couple are highly unlikely to accept.
Mr Quinn told the Mirror: “King Charles will issue the traditional invitation to Harry and Meghan to spend part of the summer at Balmoral, but safe in the knowledge that Harry and Meghan will make their excuses and decline.
“Relaxing at the 50,000-acre private estate might be just the place to let bygones be bygones, but Camilla will be dreading anything that threatens the calm her husband needs to continue his recovery from cancer.”
Mr Quinn added that Harry’s frosty relationship with his older brother Prince William could also prevent him from accepting. The two feuding brothers are said to not be on “speaking terms” after Harry and Meghan’s scathing attacks against the Firm.
“Harry would love to see Kate and his expressions of concern for her are deeply felt but he knows that he can’t see Kate without seeing his brother so it’s not going to happen.”
It comes after Harry failed to acknowledge Father’s Day on Sunday, having also missed out on an invite to this year’s Trooping the Colour – the King’s official birthday celebrations.
In contrast, Prince William, meanwhile, shared a loving tribute to Charles, sharing a throwback snapshot showing him as a child playing football with his dad. He captioned the image: “Happy Father’s Day, Pa. W.”
Appearing on Lorriane on Monday, the Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers noted the significance of William’s choice of photo. He selected a picture that did not include his younger brother – suggesting that the feud between the siblings shows no sign of healing.
