The Duke of Sussex met with his father, King Charles last week for the first in-person meeting in 19 months, and just days afterwards made a comment that hints at his father’s health
Prince Harry hinted at his father’s health again in a comment that emphasised his priorities for the near future.
Last week, the Duke of Sussex, 41, made a trip to the UK and met with his father, 76, for the first time in 19 months, the last time being in February 2024, shortly after the King’s cancer diagnosis. The private meeting between the pair at Clarence House lasted for around 50 minutes and was reportedly cut short due to Harry having another engagement.
Afterwards, Harry responded to reporters and said, in reference to his father, “Yes, he’s great.” Their meeting is thought to have been a step in the right direction for a father-son reconciliation following years of built-up tensions that followed after Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to California.

Adding fuel to the fire, the Duke and Duchess sat down for a telling interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, before Harry released his explosive memoir Spare just under two years later. In addition, they released their Netflix series with Harry also said to not be on good terms with his older brother, Prince William.
However, in a new interview during a visit to war-torn Ukraine, Harry wouldn’t talk about his father but hinted at the King’s health with a cryptic comment. He told The Guardian that over the coming year, “The focus really has to be on my dad.”
The comment suggests that Harry wants to see his father more often with a suspected nod to the King’s health. And this isn’t the first time he’s made this type of remark.
During an interview with the BBC in May this year, Harry said: “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has, he, he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.” The comment on his father’s cancer treatment reportedly caused a stir with the Royal Family.
Elsewhere in his interview with The Guardian, Harry reflected on his memoir Spare and his Netflix shows. The royal argued that these were attempts by him and Meghan to correct “one point of view”.
“I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public. It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear,” said Harry, who celebrates his 41st birthday today.
“I know that [speaking out] annoys some people and it goes against the narrative. The book? It was a series of corrections to stories already out there. One point of view had been put out and it needed to be corrected.”
In addition to his recent remarks, rumours have also emerged that Harry and Meghan could be contemplating a return to the UK. It has also been suggested that Harry wishes for their two children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, three, to receive their education in the UK.
A friend of the royal couple claimed to the Daily Mail, “I can tell you that Harry wants to educate the children here in the U”. They alleged that he had a discussion with the Duke while he was in the country last week.
The source added: “Harry feels his children are missing out on the extensive family network that their niece and nephews are enjoying,” they continued.
“Harry wants his children to have the very best education. He has retained his closest friendship group of confidants from his days at school at Ludgrove and Eton. He wants that for his own children.”
