The Prince and Princess of Wales have turned down an offer for their seven-year-old son to become a patron of the World Conker Championships, after revealing his love for the game
Prince William and Princess Catherine have declined an invitation for their son Louis to become a patron of the World Conker Championships.
The Prince and Princess of Wales turned down the opportunity for their conker-obsessed seven year old because he’s too occupied with his education.
Following an approach from the event organisers, Kensington Palace responded: “We really appreciate the invite but currently Prince Louis is ‘conker-trating’ on his studies.”
The proposal for the young Royal to take on an honorary patronage of the yearly competition arose after his mother disclosed his enthusiasm for the pastime.
She revealed: “We keep finding conkers in cupboards, in his bed – conkers everywhere,” reports the Daily Star.
The Princess mentioned that her son even places the conkers in his toy lorries.
World Conker Championships representative St John Burkett commented: “We were so heartened to hear that Prince Louis is such a conkers fan.
“He would be the perfect honorary patron for our organisation.
“The Princess of Wales herself is such a wonderful champion of childhood and nature, and playing conkers connects both children and adults to nature.”
This year’s World Conker Championships has already concluded in Southwick, Northamptonshire.
Debut competitor Matt Cross from Lincolnshire claimed this year’s title after defeating “Queen Conker” Margaret Blake of Corby in the final.
The competition was established in 1965 and has generated £485,000 for charities supporting people with visual impairments.
