Prince William has long had a complicated relationship with his uncle Prince Andrew, and was said to have been particularly upset by comments the Duke made about Princess Kate

Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson raised eyebrows when they made an unexpected appearance at the Duchess of Kent’s funeral this week.

The disgraced Duke joined key members of the royal family as they said their final farewells to Katharine, who died earlier this month at the age of 92.

Following the emotional service at Westminster Abbey, Andrew, 65, was pictured seeming to laugh and smile while other members of the Firm appeared sombre.

It is said to have particularly upset William, Prince of Wales, who has reportedly been determined “not be photographed” with his uncle in recent times. According to royal author Andrew Lownie: “William, meanwhile, was ‘furious’ at being ambushed in this way, according to friends.

“He has been at pains to distance himself from his uncle and not be photographed with him. He believes his father has not dealt with him with sufficient firmness and that Andrew – and Sarah Ferguson – have done much to undermine the good work of other members of the Royal Family.”

William has long had a difficult relationship with his paternal uncle. It’s said to have been exacerbated by ‘rude’ comments Andrew allegedly previously made about Princess Kate, according to an explosive biography.

The book, ‘Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the Yorks’, makes a number of allegations about the Duke and Duchess of York’s’ “hedonistic life, controversial friendships and secretive money-making endeavours”, while also making claims about tensions within the royal family.

According to a source who spoke to the biography’s author Andrew Lownie, there has been friction between William and Andrew for years, which began when the disgraced Duke’s actions started to impact the public’s view of the Firm.

The source claimed that Andrew had been “rude” about Kate, but did not clarify what comments had been made about the Princess of Wales.

The book also alleges that William has been trying for years to get Prince Andrew, along with his ex-wife Sarah, evicted from the Royal Lodge; the 30-room mansion the couple occupy on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

According to the unnamed source, William believes that Andrew is not maintaining the property as it has fallen into a state of disrepair over the last year.

The source is quoted in the bombshell book, saying: “He [William] also loathes Sarah, Andrew’s ex-wife, and can’t wait for the day when his father throws them both out. If Charles doesn’t, I guarantee you the first thing William does when he eventually becomes king is to get them evicted.”

It’s also been reported that the Prince of Wales was instrumental in Andrew’s banishment from royal life, after his disastrous Newsnight interview in 2019 which exposed his relationship with the late billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein .
