Prince William’s daughter Charlotte’s future ‘will only change dramatically when her father succeeds his grandfather as King’ due to the way titles are handed down

Royal experts have explained how Princess Charlotte’s royal title will face a “dramatic” change once her father Prince William becomes king.

Charlotte’s future “will only change dramatically when her father succeeds his grandfather as King,” broadcaster OSSA explained. In a report it stated: “When that happens life as Charlotte knows it will look very different. In fact, there is a good chance she’ll lose her titles when her dad is on the throne.”

This is because of the archaic way titles are handed down – and her status a “Royal lady”. The broadcaster continued: “By the time William is King of England, his eldest son George will be Prince of Wales.” This would make Charlotte, “Charlotte of nothing. Her right to be Princess of Wales flies out the window when her brother gets the official title of Prince of Wales because a Royal lady can only be a princess if she’s married to a Prince or the daughter of a Prince. As George’s sister, Charlotte doesn’t fit either category”.

In later life Charlotte may adopt the title of Princess Royal, OSSA said. “Princess Royal is a special title held by the eldest daughter of the reigning monarch which is currently Princess Anne. However there can only be one Princess Royal at a time and it is a customary title rather than a set one, so it is not certain Charlotte would be granted the styling at all, the Express reported.

Princess Charlotte is already following in the footsteps of many other royals as she has expressed an interest in an art form that is popular amongst many members of her family. When visiting a Yorkshire textile Mill Princess Charlotte’s mother, Kate Middleton, talked about her daughter’s love of dance. Speaking to a 7-year-old girl named Emily the Princess of Wales asked what she liked to do. When Emily replied she loved to dance, Kate told her: “My daughter Charlotte likes dancing, she loves ballet and tap. Keep up the dancing.”

In 2023 as a special treat, Kate also took Princess Charlotte and friends to a ballet performance of Cinderella at the Royal Opera House in London. This love is shared by Queen Camilla, who is perhaps the greatest fan of dance in the family as she is the patron of the Royal Academy of Dance – and is said to take Silver Swan dance classes there – her interests have certainly passed down to the younger royals.
