Princess Charlotte’s routine before school actually shares similarities with most schoolchildren her age up and down the UK – and Prince William and Princess Kate have to sometimes intervene
Princess Charlotte and Prince George typically start each day arguing about what song to listen to, Prince William once said.
Charlotte, eight, and her 10-year-old sibling have both inherited a love for music from William, their father explained. However, their tastes are hugely different as, while Charlotte often likes to hear Waka Waka by Shakira in the morning, George enjoys AC/DC.
And it causes arguments most mornings – scenes often depicted in family homes up and down the country. William said he has to ensure Charlotte and George take turns on which song to play.
“What I’ve been amazed by is how much my children already have inherited my family’s love of music. Most mornings there’s a massive fight between Charlotte and Prince George as to what song is played,” Prince William, 41, said.
“And I have to, now, basically prioritise that one day someone does this one and another day it’s someone else’s turn. So, George gets his go, then Charlotte gets her go. Such is the clamour for the music.”
But the future king stressed his children’s passion for music has made him proud. He said he likes to watch all three children “dancing, messing around and singing” to whatever tunes they select.
Charlotte turns nine next week and, in recent years, has been seen at more public engagements than when she was a young child. She has been pictured, at some, with her cousin Grace Middleton, daughter of Princess Kate’s sister Pippa.
They both have Elizabeth as their middle name – a moniker passed on through the Middleton family via Carole and Kate who also share the sweet name. The Princess of Wales was born Catherine Elizabeth Middleton while her mother is Carole Elizabeth Middleton, née Goldsmith. Of course, for Charlotte, the name Elizabeth is also in honour of her paternal great-grandmother, the late Queen. Her second middle name, Diana, is a touching nod to William’s late mother.
