Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s daughter Princess Eugenie shared why attending the event was important to her, as she opened up about a personal moment in her life
Princess Eugenie has opened up about a major change in her personal life, that many other mothers can relate to. Discussing family life in a rare comment, the 35-year-old shared how becoming a parent totally transformed her outlook on life.
The royal made the personal admission while attending Simon Cowell’s fundraising event for the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH), which raised £1.1m towards children receiving specialist care at the London hospital.
Held in the Cotswolds, the star-studded occasion brought together several high-profile guests, including Eugenie’s sister Princess Beatrice and brother-in-law Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who own a farmhouse in the area.
Speaking to Hello! Magazine, Princess Eugenie shared a heartfelt message about why she wanted to be involved. “It was very important for me to support Simon, Lauren [Silverman] and Saskia [Johnston] today,” she said.
“I think what GOSH is doing for children is fantastic. Having two children of my own, you just see how much it changes you as a person to be a mum, and now it means more to me than ever to support those with children who are unwell. I am so honoured to be here today and support the charity.”
Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank – a British marketing executive – married in 2018 and together they share two sons; August, born in 2021, and Ernest, who arrived two years later. As she generally avoids public disclosures, these comments from Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s youngest daughter offer a rare glimpse into her family life and values.
Echoing her sister’s sentiments, Princess Beatrice also praised the charity’s vital work. “The most amazing thing about GOSH is that they deliver such wonderful medical care to these children,” she said. “No matter what you are doing, taking the time to focus on children’s health is the most important thing.”
Also a mother-of-two, Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo, welcomed their first daughter, Sienna, in 2021 followed by their second child, Athena, who was born earlier this year. In previous times, the sisters’ mother Sarah has spoken affectionately about life as a grandmother.
According to the publication, she revealed that her home, the Royal Lodge in Windsor, often needs a child-friendly makeover when her grandchildren visit. “When they come to the house, we have to clear all the furniture out of the way and the dogs scarper!”, she joked. “Baby August is phenomenal – a very strong little chap. He thinks I’m hysterical!”
The Duchess of York has continued living at the royal residence with her ex-husband Prince Andrew, despite them divorcing in 1996.
According to royal biographer Andrew Lownie, the couple made the decision to stay as housemates as “they are still really good friends” and wanted “to be good parents”.
Speaking to the Daily Express US, he added: “She of course gets all the benefits of and status of being still connected to the Royal Family.
“She can live at Royal Lodge for free, and all the benefits of cooks and stuff, and it gives her her status, which is very important to her, by means of earning of a living.”
The Duchess is now said to be keeping a low profile at the property, following recent allegations about a leaked email to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, sent in 2011.
