Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis smiled and waved at Trooping the Colour alongside their mum, Princess Kate, in their first major royal appearance of the year
The young Princes and Princess of Wales looked intensely proud of their mother Princess Kate during her first public appearance today, a body language expert has claimed.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis were seen smiling and waving with their mum as they travelled along The Mall in a state carriage. It’s the first time all three of the children have made a major royal appearance this year. Charlotte, nine, was seen beaming at the crowds while six-year-old Louis waved out of the window. Their father Prince William took part in the military parade on horseback.
Their outing marks a welcome return to the royal spotlight as the siblings were last seen together in public on Christmas Day with the rest of the Royal Family at Sandringham before Kate was admitted to hospital for abdominal surgery. It was announced yesterday that Kate would be attending the celebration of the King’s official birthday with her family.
Body language expert Judi James analysed footage of the family’s interactions today, concluding that the children were intensely proud of their brave mum, Kate. She told The Mirror: “The signals of intense pride tinged with excitement from her children came as they exited the carriage before their mother to form what looked like a little guard of honour line-up, watching as she stepped carefully down at which point they turned to walk in before her.”
Judi also concluded that Kate had made a concerted effort to minimise drawing attention to herself, knowing that many turned up to see her attending King Charles’ birthday parade.
Judi said: “Kate’s appearance looked subtle and as low-impact as possible given the nation if not the world has been waiting for this moment to welcome her back.
“Kate’s hat brim made this first appearance since Xmas a discreet one, as though she was keen to avoid upstaging the King on his birthday celebrations. The smile was still visible in glimpses and there were a few speedy waves but her upright back created an enduringly regal impression in the carriage as they rode to the parade ground.”
Kate sported a monochrome number – a snow-white dress adorned with a pure black trim and tie. She appeared to have coordinated her outfit with that of her daughter, Princess Charlotte, who wore a black dress with a bone-coloured tie.
The pair were seen shortly after leaving Buckingham Palace in a horse-drawn carriage, following behind King Charles and Queen Camilla as part of the Trooping the Colour parade.
It comes hours after she released a statement, alongside a stunning new photo of the royal posing outside, in which she admitted she had endured some “harder times”. She said: “I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days.”
