Purley High Street fight leaves 5 men in hospital with ‘significant injuries’ and weapons found

Five men are in hospital with “significant injuries” following an ‘assault’ on Purley High Street last night (July 17). Police were called just before 10.30pm, with officers seizing multiple weapons from the busy Croydon road.

The group – made up of three men in their twenties and two men in their thirties – are said to be in a stable condition. Although serious, their injuries are not life-changing or life-threatening, according to a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police.

The force is now investigating the circumstances and are following several lines of enquiry. No one is yet to be arrested in connection to the late-night incident.

Photos taken at the scene show a car cordoned off outside KFC on Purley Parade. Multiple blood spatters can also be seen on the pavement.

Purley High Street was closed overnight, with a large police presence remaining in place until around 9.30am today.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “At 22:27hrs on Thursday, 17 July officers and the London Ambulance Service responded to reports of a disturbance on Purley High Street, Croydon. Upon arrival several victims, three men in their 20s and two men in their 30s, were found with significant injuries.

“They were treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital shortly after. Their injuries have not been deemed life-changing or life-threatening.

“After a crime scene was established, officers seized several weapons which were found at the location. An investigation has been launched and several lines of enquiry are ongoing. At this stage no arrests have been made.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.32pm on Thursday 17 July to reports of an assault on Purley High Street, CR8. We sent ambulance crews and an incident response officer to the scene. We treated five patients and took them to hospital.”
