Purley Way reopens after Croydon crash with man rushed to hospital as ‘priority’

The Purley Way has reopened following a serious crash on Tuesday morning (July 30). Local reports state a man was seen lying in the road following the Croydon crash which happened near the corner of Purley Way Playing Fields.

Traffic monitoring site INRIX reported the incident happened at 8.30am and warned drivers “A23 Purley Way Northbound closed, slow traffic due to accident from Edgehill Road to Imperial Way”. Live traffic cameras showed traffic in Purley was severely affected by the crash with parts of the town centre at a standstill.

The road reopened at about 12.10pm. A London Ambulance Service (LAS) spokesperson said: “We were called at 8.22am on Tuesday, July 30 to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Purley Way and Edgehill Road, Purley. We sent an ambulance crew to the scene, which arrived in four minutes.

“Our crews treated a man at the scene, before taking him to a London major trauma centre as a priority.” MyLondon has contacted the Metropolitan Police for more information.
