The King and Queen enjoyed a little tipple together as they celebrated Edinburgh’s 900th anniversary this week – and Camilla certainly seemed to enjoy her ‘wee dram’

King Charles and Queen Camilla were in for a treat on Wednesday as they attended an event in Edinburgh to mark the city’s 900th anniversary.

The royal couple were warmly welcomed as they visited stalls set out to showcase Scottish culture and business. And waiting for them at one stand were two drams of 52-year-old Macallan whiskey, produced by Aberdeen alcoholic beverages company Duncan Taylor.

Camilla, elegant in a mint green Anna Valentine design, certainly enjoyed her little tipple. After knocking it back, she was overheard saying: “That hits the spot. That hits the spot,” via the Telegraph.

Evan Robertson, the director of Duncan Taylor, meanwhile said: “The King was over the moon about the whisky.” And Kevin Alston, the company’s marketing manager, added: “Camilla was encouraging him. She waited for him to join her and knew he would be cross if she drank it without him!”

It was a busy day for the royals. The King, wearing his King Charles III Tartan kilt, took part in a short Ceremony of The Key at Edinburgh Castle. As the couple were driven up the hill to Crown Square, the City of Edinburgh Band played a specially written piece composed by Pipe Major Iain Lowther of Queen Victoria School called King Charles III Welcome to Edinburgh Castle.

A brisk wind whipped round the castle amid brief rain showers and Camilla was heard saying: “I’m hanging onto my umbrella.” And Charles told one guest: “I hope you don’t get blown away!” One onlooker took the opportunity to enquire after the King’s health following his cancer diagnosis. “Not too bad,” the 75-year-old replied.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Live Casino , body language expert Darren Stanton said the King was clearly “having fun” and “really enjoying this moment” on the day. He said: “King Charles was walking along, speaking with people very openly and interacting with active listening. His whole face was engaged and he walked with a lot of strength and inner confidence.

“At one point, the King was speaking with someone who had their dog with them. As the dog was trying to get some attention, Charles then made a fuss of him and this was great to see.We saw the King have fun and break away from his normal character. We saw him be his true self in public. You could tell he was really enjoying this moment as he was able to relax and let go.”
