William and Kate kept their engagement secret from the public for days but a rare video after an infamous interview showed some of Kate’s hidden feelings
Resurfaced clip shows Prince William telling Kate to ‘breathe’
A rare video caught the moments after Princess Kate and Prince Williams’ first interview as an engaged couple.
Royal fans across the globe were filled with excitement and joy when the couple announced their engagement back in November, 2010. William popped the question on a romantic trip to Kenya and the couple returned to the UK for all the excitement from their fans and the news of a royal wedding. The couple sat down for a now iconic interview, where Kate showed the world her special engagement ring, and the young couple announced their hopes for their future together – but resurfaced footage shows exactly what Kate said after the TV camera stopped rolling.

Kate was pushed into the heart of the world’s most famous family but the moments after the talk, with ITV’s Tom Bradby, showed the soon-to-be princesses softer side.
Behind-the-scenes clips from that special day saw Prince William try to calm down his fiancé and calmly tell her to “breathe”. Anxious Kate quickly responded with “I’m not very good at that.”
William, during the interview, even admitted they were a little nervous to take part. After, Bradby noted that they seemed relaxed and happy during conversation, William said: “We are. We’re like sort of ducks, very calm on the surface with little feet going under the water. It’s been really exciting because we’ve been talking about it for a long time so for us, it’s a real relief and it’s really nice to be able to tell everybody.”
In the famous interview, the couple covered a wide range of topics, from the early days of their relationship, to William asking Kate’s father Michael for permission and the engagement ring itself.
Royal author Katie Nicholl, in her book Kate: The Future Queen, claimed Kate had been “dreading” the interview, according to the MailOnline. Nicholl wrote: “Afterward Mr Brady remembered her leaning back and sighing with relief, exclaiming, ‘I’m no good at this!'”
The royal author added that Kate supposedly left her hand on her lap on purpose, to make sure she didn’t fidget or show signs of nervousness.
During the interview, Kate also revealed she endured an attack of nerves when she met William for the first time, as St Andrews university. She said: “Well I actually think I went bright red when I met you and sort of scuttled off, feeling very shy about meeting you.
“Actually William wasn’t there for quite a bit of the time initially, he wasn’t there for Freshers Week, so it did take a bit of time for us to get to know each other but we did become very close friends from quite early.”
The couple filmed that interview in Clarence House, where William lived with Prince Harry before marriage. William and Kate recently moved into their “forever home” Forest Lodge, in Windsor Great Park.
While the family has faced a series of personal challenges in the last couple of years, it is said they hope to remain in Forest Lodge for good, even when the time eventually comes for Prince William to take the throne.
