Reading College police statement in full as officers remain in area after teen attacked

An automated message on the college’s phone line confirmed the victim’s family have been informed

Police have arrested two boys, one on suspicion of having a blade, after a teenager was attacked at Reading College. Emergency services descended on the college on Thursday afternoon (November 6) with the victim taken to hospital.

Providing updates today (Friday, November 7) Thames Valley Police have confirmed two arrests have been made and the victim has been discharged from hospital to continue his recovery at home. Officers remain in the area today with increased patrols as part of the ‘priority’ investigation.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said in a statement: “Following an assault with injury at around 2.20pm on Thursday (November 6) at Kings Road, Reading, we can confirm that two arrests have now been made. A 17-year-old boy from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article on school/further education premises.

“A 16-year-old boy, also from Reading, has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent. They both remain in custody and we are not looking to make any further arrests, at this time.

“The victim, who is in his late teens, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has been discharged from hospital. We understand that this may have caused concern but we are investigating this as a priority and are working closely with our partners.

“Officers remain in the area and are conducting increased patrols today (Friday). If you have any worries or concerns, please speak with a uniformed officer. Anyone with information should contact us on 101 or make an online report, quoting reference number 43250567288.

An automated message on the college’s phone line said on Thursday afternoon: “We have dealt with an incident at Reading College where one student has sustained injuries not believed to be life-threatening. Their family have been informed.

“The police have been notified and are present. Please be reassured that all actions have been taken to ensure students’ safety.”
