Reef, a popular alcopop, was frequently enjoyed by clubbers in the 1990s but disappeared from bars, nightclubs and supermarkets when alcopops went out of fashion

An alcopop popular in bars and clubs the 1990s has become the latest retro favourite to make a comeback.

Reef, which was stocked in discos and pubs decades ago, has been spotted back on supermarket shelves. The fruity vodka drink was discontinued in the early 2000s after its love by ravers and clubbers declined.

But now the manufacturer says middle-aged drinkers will enjoy its return as shops and clubs stock Reef again. Social media users have already lauded the decision.

A spokeswoman for the tipple, thought to be 3.4 per cent ABV, added: “Reef is back on shelves, ready to transport the UK back to a time when life was simpler, with its nostalgic taste and still chill vibes. It’s time to take a trip down memory lane for some alcoholic adult juice that’s reminiscent of ’90s house parties and dancing till the early hours of the morning to Born Slippy.”

Reef was a clubbing favourite alongside Bacardi Breezers, Two Dogs, Smirnoff Ice, WKD and Hooch. Hooch relaunched in 2012 in a lower-alcohol formulation.

Reef brand manager Jacob Barrett told Metro.co.uk: “We’re very much experiencing a return to the ’90s as a culture, from bucket hats to S Club 7, and Reef feels like the perfect taste to transport people back. You might have rent to pay, a job to go to, children to look after, but you also have the memories of a life before all that. We want to help people relive that period and remember those days with a simple sip. Times may have changed, but Reef hasn’t.”

“This my favourite drink I’m so happy,” one Facebook user said. Another posted: “I used to drink these at the pub with dad when I was younger,” A third posted: “I remember in Magaluf I was so hungover but the Reefs were the only thing I could drink to get me feeling normal again.”

Some online suggested the development was an April Fools Day prank but The Mirror has confirmed Reef is already available at B&M stores nationwide, and 24-packs (priced at £21.50) are ready to order online via GoodTimeIn.
