Mother and daughter cleaning bloggers claim that a surprising kitchen staple will rid of the stubborn tea stains that plague your kitchenware and teacups – but what is it?

Nothing ruins a mug quite like a stubborn tea stain – but an expert claims that one cupboard ingredient will help rid of these for good.

Whether you’re English Breakfast drinker or usually opt for the Earl Grey, the problem of stained teacups always remains the same. These brown marks never fail to make your kitchenware look dirty – even if you’ve spent hours trying to scrub them off.

Though, Darie and Carolina Estill, a pair of mother and daughter cleaning bloggers, swear by a quick trick to banish this annoying discolouration – and it only costs 59p. Speaking on their blog, Truly Blissful, they wrote: ” Our cups and pots are used everyday, and sometimes we look down to find icky brown stains in the cup or in and around the pot.

“Technically, it doesn’t hurt anything, it just looks unsightly, especially if you’re sharing afternoon tea with a friend… We thought a tutorial on how to clean your cups and pots, without scratching them, would be helpful! We love to clean our cups and watch them become sparkling clean!”

Surprisingly, the family’s technique only involves two components – a dash of baking soda and a few drops of water. This should be mixed directly inside your problemed teacup to form a paste.

Once together, grabbing a cloth is then advised, so the baking soda concoction can be rubbed into the stains. Cleaners should rinse this thoroughly with water to finish off the trick, leaving the cups sparkling clean.

“Sometime we use our fingers to clean,” Darie and Carolina added. “Sometimes we use a cloth. Either works unless you can’t get into the crevices with your fingers.

“To get into a spout, we normally use a cotton swab, as we don’t happen to have a small bottle brush, but you could certainly use a bottle brush.”

The cleaning bloggers’ thoughts come as countless others have also recommended baking soda as a game-changer when it comes to everyday chores. Tim Alcock at LeaseCar.uk, recently claimed that baking soda, white vinegar and water can be used to get rid of dog smells in your car.

Meanwhile, a TikToker explained that any yellowish sweat stains on your favourite t-shirts can be removed with some baking soda too. Nicole Mikaluk (@nicolemikaluk) told her followers: “If you wanna get rid of that yellow pit stain on all of your white t-shirts, soak them in a bath of vinegar, baking soda and cold water for an hour, and they come out brand new.”

You can get your hands on some baking soda for as little as 59p at Sainsbury’s.
