The shoes from River Island feature a mesh outer layer that’s decorated in studs as well as a buckle strap – and one fashion fan thinks they’re perfect for warmer days
With spring in the air, many of us are switching out our winter boots for something a little less constricting as the warmer days approach, and one River Island fan thinks she has found the ultimate spring-summer shoe for the season: the Beige Studded Mary Jane Ballet Pumps.
Costing £35, the fabulous flats feature a mesh coating that surrounds the foot, as opposed to your standard leather, meaning you can just about see the feet without them being exposed to the elements. Secured with a silver buckle, the pumps, which are firm favourites of Loose Women star Frankie Bridge, look pretty similar to a pair of Miu Mius – and they’re available in sizes three to seven.
As for why they are the “perfect” spring shoe, TikTokker Tracey White – a fashion and beauty influencer – explained how she’d been on the hunt for a pair like River Island’s £35 ones for a while and said: “I’ve been scouring the high street for a while now looking for the perfect pair of Mary Janes with a little bit of embellishment but also the mesh style. I didn’t want them too see through so you could see all your toes, so it was a little bit of a tricky job.
“While I was in River Island today, I spotted these. You can see the little crystals on them, they’re so cute. So these are in a rose gold. They also did them in black. I love where the strap lays here, they’re a little bit lower so they’re not too high across the ankle.”
Popping the shoes on to show how they worked with a casual outfit, Tracey went on to say that they were “perfect for day to day” use, sharing how she would wear the shoes with some slouchy denim trousers, white t-shirt or white linen shirt with a tan bag. She suggested the shoes would also look amazing with some white denim trousers or a maxi skirt – and we agree!
The studded shoes are great if you’re after something a little different to your classic ballet pumps – which have a bow on the front – as they add a bit of an edge with the mesh texture and crystal-embellished finish that glints in the sunlight.
Having recently launched the shoes in this new pinky beige colour after the black pair became so popular, River Island shared a video of the shoes on their social media and was met with a barrage of praise from fashion fans.
“Love the shoes,” said one follower which another simply said: “Love River Island” followed by a 100% emoji and a love heart.
“Love ballet pumps…. pink for me,” added another alongside a fourth who stated: “Omg I want theseeee.”
Although this particular colour wasn’t loved all round with a number of shoppers commenting on the brand’s Instagram video to share their disdain, such as one who said: “What are those.” Although for many, it was the video itself that caused the most comments as River Island followers saw the team unbox the shoes in an ASMR-style video, which featured a lot of ‘tapping’.
If these shoes aren’t quite for you and you’re looking for something more classic, these blush coloured ballet shoes from Dune, £65, have a cute charm detail attached and are made out of comfortable leather. Alternatively, for a mesh style without the studded detail, Bershka do a similar pair here for £22.99 with two buckle straps instead of one.
