Acclaimed Welsh actor, comedian, singer and writer Rob Brydon may be best known for his portrayal of Uncle Bryn in the BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey, but you’re more likely to catch him out and about in London than in South Wales these days.

The actor first rose to fame through his roles in the dark comedy series Human Remains and the mockumentary Marion and Geoff, and the 60-year-old has starred in a plethora of series since including the comedic Supernova, The Keith Barret Show and 24 Hour Party People.

He’s also shared the screen with fellow comedian and actor Steve Coogan in numerous TV series, such as The Trip, The Trip to Italy, The Trip to Spain and The Trip to Greece. In his most recent role, Brydon hosts the BBC reality adventure series Destination X, which sees 13 contestants embark on the road trip of a lifetime across Europe – without knowing where they are, reports the Express.

Before fame, Brydon spent his childhood in the village of Baglan near Port Talbot, Wales, with his parents and little brother. At school, he encountered stand-up comedian Suzy Eddie Izzard, comedian and writer Ruth Jones, and actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Away from the cameras, Brydon is said to live in Strawberry Hill in Twickenham, Richmond upon Thames, alongside his wife, Clare Holland and their two sons. In a past piece in The Telegraph from 2010, Brydon remarked about the area: “I live in Strawberry Hill, a desolate, barren no-man’s-land between Twickenham and Teddington in Middlesex.”

Rob is father to five children altogether: three from his former marriage to Martina Fitchie and two with his current wife, Clare. In a recent chat, he revealed to The Times that there’s quite a considerable age difference between his offspring.

He commented, “I have quite the age range, 30 down to 14. I’m desperate for a lie-in. They all do different things. My eldest is in casting, then chef, teacher, still at school, still at school.”

Strawberry Hill is an upmarket in Twickenham located just 10 miles from Charing Cross, and is renowned for its 18th-century Gothic mansion, Strawberry Hill House, designed by author Horace Walpole between 1749 and 1776.

Strawberry Hill itself provides a family-friendly setting that has more of a rural village atmosphere than that of a London suburb. With tree-lined streets and views of the River Thames, this suburb boasts a green atmosphere while still offering easy access to London Waterloo.

In the summer, visitors can enjoy a picnic on Twickenham Green or take a brisk autumn walk with a hot coffee from a local café. Plus, you can admire views of Eel Pie Island from The Embankment in Twickenham.

According to Rightmove, the average house price in Strawberry Hill over the past year was £1,030,580. Most of the properties sold in Strawberry Hill last year were flats, which went for an average price of £544,290. Semi-detached homes sold for an average of £1,493,925, while terraced houses fetched £979,844.

Overall, the historical sold prices in Strawberry Hill over the past year were 18 per cent higher than the previous year and 4 per cent lower than the 2022 peak of £1,075,739.
