A rogue circumciser’s brother was thrown from the courthouse after arguing with the judge and squaring up to a police officer. With Mohammed Alazawi, 54, set to be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday afternoon (June 15), family members sat quietly to hear the prosecution and defence trade blows following his conviction this May for 40 offences, including seven GBHs with intent.

But as soon as the defence team were finished mitigating, Alazawi’s brother, whose name we cannot confirm, stood up and addressed Judge Gregory Perrins, asking he be allowed to make a contribution before sharing his opinions. The judge immediately asked him to sit down, and later to leave the court, but Alazawi’s brother continued, forcing a police officer to intervene to restore order.

The officer repeatedly asked Alazawi’s brother to leave, at one point taking his arm to guide him from the court. But Alazawi’s brother responded angrily, complaining ‘Do not touch me. Why you touch me?’ As they stood face to face, the officer coolly told him ‘I’m not scared of you’, adding that she would have him arrested. The court clerk then joined in, firmly directing Alazawi’s brother to the door.

Outside Court 11, and surrounded by court security staff, Alazawi’s brother only agreed to leave the building after a stern chat with Alazawi’s defence barrister who pleaded with him to calm down. During the debacle, Judge Perrins noted previous warnings about his conduct earlier during the trial. MyLondon understands the judge has ordered he remains outside for the rest of proceedings.

Alazawi, from Ilford, carried out a number of non-therapeutic male circumcisions between October 2016 and January 2022 on baby boys and older male children across London, one of whom was aged four, the court heard. He was able to because non-therapeutic male circumcision is unregulated and is not required to be carried out by a medical practitioner, the CPS has said.

Believing he was a doctor, and enticed by a cheaper than usual rate, parents consented to circumcisions being carried out on their children. But the prosecution said Alazawi’s methods were unsanitary, including pre-filling anaesthetic syringes and transporting them in a suitcase, a frequent failure to wash his hands or disinfect surfaces, and the use of unauthorised medical equipment.

Alazawi, who was born in Iraq, was previously convicted for ABH in 1997 after violently attacking a lone woman, the court was told. MyLondon will report on the full sentence, which will be handed down by Judge Perrins at 2:30pm today.
