King Charles has reportedly told friends and correspondents of his dedication to beating cancer in letters.

The 75-year-old wrote of his determination and grit in getting through treatment for the illness following his diagnosis of an unspecified form of cancer in February. The personal letters, the content of which has been reported by The Times, spoke of his “somewhat battered health” but were also “full of light”, according to one recipient.

One pen pal told the title how the monarch described his “determination” to beat cancer, while the other spoke of his tenacity as he peppered his writing “full of exclamation marks”, sharing his hopes of a full recovery. Charles’ cancer was discovered during planned surgery to correct an enlarged prostate at The London Clinic in Marylebone earlier this year.

Buckingham Palace confirmed his diagnosis but has not shared which type of cancer he currently has, although it’s understood not to be prostate cancer. His health scare chimed with Princess of Wales Kate’s own cancer news, as she revealed in March she was also being treated for the disease.

The King returned to public facing duties last week for the first time, aptly meeting with cancer patients on an engagement with Queen Camilla. Insight into his determination comes as Camilla is reportedly expected to decline an invitation from Prince Harry to an Invictus Games ceremony on his upcoming trip to the UK.

The Duke has invited members of the Firm, including father King Charles, to the 10th anniversary commemorative service on Wednesday.
