Queen Camilla has been branded “wonderful” after she invited two very special guests for tea.

Camilla, 76, greeted schoolchildren Tony and Lyla as they attended a private garden party with the royal. It came after both of them missed a more widely-attended get-together.

A clip posted to the Royal Family’s official X (formerly Twitter) page showed snippets of the sweet gathering. In the video, Camilla could be heard saying: “Really nice to get you here today. We thought we’d give you a special garden party.”

The video then panned to a clip of Tony, who said: “I was supposed to go to a garden party but we got stuck in traffic. My mum put out a Tweet, the Queen’s team said, ‘So sad that you didn’t make the garden party today.’

“We found out that I was having a private one with another person called Lyla.”

Lyla then explained: “We couldn’t come to the garden party last month because I was in hospital. We sat round the table and we just chatted for a bit.”

Tony even said he was presented with a BEM (British Empire Medal). The video was captioned: “When Tony and Lyla came to tea…” and royal fans were quick to comment on the clip. One wrote: “Yay Tony, glad he got to go to Buckingham Palace for tea and cake.”

Another attached a screenshot of a grinning Tony, adding: “This smile is EVERYTHING,” while a third chimed in: “Fabulous what a wonderful Queen how incredibly special for kids. Just warms my heart.”

Others agreed: “That’s kind of Her Majesty!” and: “Aww I absolutely love that The Queen made sure the kids and their families still had a special day with her! Well done for keeping your word, Your Majesty. I’m sure they will never forget this wonderful day,” followed by a series of heart emojis.

Garden parties are held regularly at the palace and are a way of “recognising and rewarding public service,” according to the Royal Family’s website. It reads: “In summer, the Sovereign traditionally hosts three Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace, and one at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland. Historically, Garden Parties took the place of presentation parties attended by debutantes.”
