A dog was punched and kicked outside a North London cafe on June 18, in a beating which lasted several minutes. The RSPCA is now investigation the incident, which was reported by a customer at the cafe, located on Lordship Lane in Tottenham.

The customer said they saw a sustained attack on the dog, who appeared to have historic injuries, including a swollen eye and mouth. The incident happened at around 12.30pm on June 18, and is believed to have been carried out by the dog’s owner.

While there was no CCTV at the cafe to capture the assault, the RSPCA has now released an image of a man who was in the area at the time and who they believe may be able to help provide information to assist in their enquiries.

The dog, a female, was described as being of a medium size and tan/gold in colour and she has floppy ears. She appeared frightened of her assailant who the RSPCA believe is a frequent bookmaker in the area.

Inspector Shahnaz Ahmad, who is investigating, said: “I’m appealing to people in the local area for information about this alleged incident, including this man who may have been in the area at the time. Someone who was in the cafe reports seeing a man punch and kick the dog outside and alleges the beating lasted several minutes.

“We are keen to find the dog so we can check that they are okay as part of our enquiries. Unfortunately, we’ve had a few different complaints about dogs being allegedly beaten in this area – by different people.

“If anyone has any information about this incident or similar acts of alleged cruelty in this area of Tottenham we would urge them to ring the RSPCA appeals line number on 0300 123 8018.”
