Ryanair has issued a warning for passengers with flights facing potential disruption this week due to high winds hitting the UK – we take a look at your compensation rights
Ryanair has issued a warning for Brits due to travel in the coming days due to stormy weather affecting the UK.
A spokesperson for the budget airline explained: “Potential disruptions to/from the UK on Monday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 9 due to high winds.
“Affected passengers will be notified and any passengers travelling to/from the UK on Monday, April 9 and Tuesday, April 9 should check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight.
“We regret any inconvenience caused to passengers by these high winds, which are outside of Ryanair’s control and affect all airlines operating to and from the UK.”
If an airline cancels your flight, you’re entitled to a full refund. You may be offered vouchers or the option to rebook to a later date, but you can choose the refund if that’s your preferred option.
However, it’s worth noting if your flight is delayed, it’s unlikely that you would receive compensation. This is because airlines will likely be able to claim ‘extraordinary circumstances’ aka something that was out of their control such as the weather.
In this instance, it’s worth checking the terms of your travel insurance policy in case they can help you recoup any of your costs. If you do need to spend money on food, drink or even alternative accommodation due to flight delays, keep any receipts and make sure you stick to reasonable costs or your claims could be rejected.
Jet2 passengers have also been urged to check for travel updates at least 12 hours before their flight leaves, although this hasn’t been directly linked to the weather conditions.
A statement on the airline’s website explains: “Please check this section of the website at least 12 hours before your flight for the latest flight information.
“Customers are advised to arrive at their departure airport at least 2 hours before their scheduled departure time.
“In the event of any flight delays further information can be found by using the above search panel by entering your flight number or route. As a reminder check in desks will close 40 minutes before your scheduled departure time.
“Rest assured, in the event of flight disruption our dedicated Operations teams are always working hard behind the scenes at our UK-based HQ to get you on your way as soon as possible.”
