Sainsbury’s has issued opening times guidance for the long Easter weekend, including if its larger shops will be open on Easter Sunday – here is everything you need to know

Sainsbury’s opening times will be slightly different to normal this weekend due to Easter.

Good Friday falls on March 29 this year, with Easter Sunday following on March 31 and Easter Monday on April 1. It is important to know if your local Sainsbury’s will be open on these days, in case you need to pop into a store for any last-minute essentials.

Sainsbury’s confirmed to The Mirror that the vast majority of its supermarkets will be open from 7am until 10pm on Good Friday and Easter Saturday. On Easter Sunday, all of our supermarkets will be closed in the UK, apart from in Scotland where stores will open in line with Sunday trading hours.

Then on Easter Monday, most of its supermarkets will be open between 8am and 8pm. Its smaller Sainsbury’s Local convenience stores will be open as usual from 7am to 10pm across the entire weekend. However, these opening times are just a rough guide. You can check the opening hours of your local store by entering your postcode on the Sainsbury’s online store finder tool.

It comes after Sainsbury’s was report edly trialling locked electronic security cabinets in the alcohol aisles of some stores to prevent shoplifters. Shoppers have to use a digital touchscreen and complete a “four-step process” to open the cabinets, which contain premium spirits.

The Grocer, which first spotted the new security measure, noted how one of the systems Sainsbury’s is trialling, called Freedom Case, has the ability to track when items have been removed, how often the cabinet has been opened and for how long.

Some of these types of cabinets can only be opened if the customer scans their loyalty app or card, while others ask shoppers to input their mobile phone number or use facial recognition. However, Sainsbury’s confirmed to The Grocer that no facial recognition or customer data is required as part of the trial.
