You can make your bangers and mash meal taste significantly better by adding in two ingredients before cooking it, which will make all the difference.
We’ve officially reached the midpoint of November, and the weather has well and truly shifted into winter mode now. There’s nothing better than stepping indoors from the bitter cold and whipping up a delicious and warming evening meal.
There’s no lack of options to pick from, but one of Britain’s most popular is sausages and mash. Juicy bangers paired with velvety mashed spuds and lashings of gravy make an unbeatable trio, so it’s hardly surprising that so many people love it.
But if you fancy taking your dish up a level, there’s one thing you should do to your sausages before popping them in the oven, which will enhance their flavour. The recipe was posted by food enthusiast and fitness expert Lauren Nichole on TikTok, in a clip which has racked up over 700,000 views.
She explains you can boost the flavour of your sausages by creating a straightforward hot honey glaze using just two ingredients and slathering your bangers before cooking them in the oven, reports the Express.
Combined with onion gravy and silky mashed potatoes, this is the ultimate comfort dish. Followers in the comments are in agreement, with one saying: “Now that is like the perfect autumn/winter meal.”
Another said: “I’m going to need you to come right to my house and make this for me tonight because YUM.”
Here’s how you can prepare this dish at home.
Hot honey sausage and mash
Ingredients
- Two low-fat sausages
- 200g potatoes
- 5g honey
- 75ml instant gravy
- 5g light butter
- Splash of almond milk
- Red onion
- Salt, pepper
- Chilli flakes
Method
Combine the honey and chilli flakes, then coat your sausages in this mixture before popping them in the oven at 180 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
Chop the potatoes into chunks and give them a boil in salted water until they’re tender, which should take about 20 minutes.
Slice up the onions and let them caramelise in a hot pan with a generous amount of salt over a low heat, roughly for the same duration as the potatoes are boiling. Once they’re cooked, pour your gravy into the pan with the onions and stir until everything is well mixed.
Drain the potatoes, add a dollop of butter, a splash of milk and season with salt and pepper, then mash until you’ve got a creamy consistency. Dish everything out, drizzle your gravy on top and tuck in.
