Ryanair passengers have been fuming at ‘disgusting’ hand luggage restrictions on their flights, but Antler’s Cabin Bag fits the sizing regulations perfectly – and it’s got £50 off

Ryanair passengers have been taking to X (formerly Twitter) to fume about the budget airline’s “disgusting” hand luggage restrictions, as more people get caught out at the gate with oversized hand luggage. The passengers have been swearing never to fly with the airline again after being charged extra as they arrived at the gate due to their cabin bags not fitting within the travel company’s super strict sizing regulations.

One person complained: “The pricing structure on baggage at @Ryanair means I will never fly with them again. Having to pay for even a hand luggage case is, quite frankly, disgusting They might advertise “budget ticket prices” but if you want to take more than a ladies handbag you pay through the nose.”

Whilst another fumed: “What is up with Ryanair baggage policy? Only a laptop bag is ok as long as it fits under the tiny seat.” The budget airline company hit news recently after reports it had reduced its hand luggage allowance by more than 50% over recent years.

The airline’s free hand luggage now exclusively allows 40cm x 20cm x 25cm baggage which must fit under the seat in front of you. If you want to travel with a small cabin sized suitcase, you have to upgrade your baggage allowance to either the Priority or 2 Cabin Bags option.

This upgrade allows you a cabin suitcase measuring 55cm x 40cm x 20cm on board, like Antler’s Logo Cabin in Pine, which must be stored in the overhead compartment. The super tight restrictions mean that you must pay extra for this option, with Priority or 2 Cabin Bags options costing between £6 and £36 when booked in advance. If you end up getting caught out at the gate, it can cost between £20 and £38.

However if you’re prepared to pay the extra for your additional cabin bag, Antler’s Logo Cabin Bag is the perfect size to fit into the tight restrictions whilst still giving you plenty of packing space inside. The case also weighs just 2.75kg, a fraction of the 10kg weight limit which gives you plenty left over to pack your essentials in.

If you’re not prepared to pay extra for the hand luggage, you can either opt to check in your suitcase as the desk, which will cost you anything from £11.99 to £59.99 depending on the size and weight of your suitcase. Or, you can try to get everything you need into a backpack which fits the free baggage restrictions of 40cm x 20cm x 25cm.

This Small Travel Hand Luggage Backpack, £21.24 here (was £26.99), on Amazon has been designed with Ryanair passengers in mind, and fits the measurement restrictions exactly. However it still has a packing capacity of 20litres, which should give you enough space for a couple of days worth of clothes.

It has individual compartments to keep your packing organised and compressed as much as possible, including space for a laptop, clothing and personal items. It also opens like a suitcase, giving you much easier access to your belongings than a standard backpack.

Antler is also running a major sale right now which lets you pick up their luxurious top-quality luggage with some huge savings. Check out their must-have luggage here.
